Breast Cancer in India

Breast cancer accounts for 25% to 32% of cancers in women across India.

One in every twenty-eight Indian women will develop breast cancer during their lifetime.

Breast cancer is now ranked first from being fourth most common cancer in India during the 1990s

The incidence rate of breast cancer is increasing in younger age groups, more so in between the age of 30 – 40.

According to studies, the global burden of breast cancer is going to reach about 2 million by 2030.

Only 66% of Indian women survive breast cancer compared to 90% of women globally.

If detected early, breast cancer is curable.

For women over the age of 40, breast cancer screening for average risk includes a mammogram. High risk screening would involve genetic counselling and testing followed by surveillance methods.
